Thomas Eastland was born in Pennsylvania, and graduated from Penn State and MIT. He
has worked as a Marine aviator, an Operations Manager on the Atlantic and Pacific
Missile Ranges, a NASA Test Controller and Operations Manager, and a consultant and
teacher for the Canadian Space Agency. His wife and co-author, Arja (Miettinen), was
born in Imatra, Finland, and emigrated to Montreal, where she worked as a hair
stylist and sales representative for ladies wear, and then gourmet coffee and
macadamia nuts. They later moved to Hawaii where they owned and operated a coffee
farm and vacation rental, and finally migrated to Finland, where their book was
born.
